Documents needed to study in Spain

If you travel to Spain either to study a degree, a master's degree, do an internship, or a training stay for more than 90 days, you will need a visa. The type of visa you will need and the requirements to obtain it will depend on your country of origin, among other factors.

You can consult the specific requirements necessary at the Spanish consulate in your country of origin, but here are the main ones:

  • Valid passport with a photo and a copy of it: as in most procedures, this valid identity document with a current photograph is essential documentation.
  • Residency: you will need proof that you have legal residence in the country where you are going to apply for the visa, either with nationality or with the corresponding document.
  • Health insurance in Spain: you will need medical insurance that covers all possible contingencies such as repatriation coverage and medical expenses during the entire period of your stay. At Guruit, we offer health insurance that will get your visa accepted without any problem.
  • Acceptance letter: you will need a letter of admission, signed by the organizations involved, indicating the name of the student, the name of the course or activity, the start, and end dates of the stay, as well as the address.
  • Non-criminal record certificate: this requirement is essential for all legal procedures.
  • Financial statements: financial resources must be accredited, and there are several ways to do it, either with the latest bank statements, through family means, or with a scholarship.
  • TIE: if you are not a resident of the EU, you must apply for the TIE, although this will have to be done during the first 30 days after entering Spain.

In some cases, fees are payable when applying for the visa and payment must be made at the time of applying for the visa. In addition, the duration of the visa will normally be until the end of your study period, probably a few more months so that you can travel and get to know the country. Finally, you should bear in mind that each country and each embassy has different regulations, and you should check which are the requirements that apply in your case.
