Public pools for summer in Madrid
Summer is here, everyone to the pool! Madrid may not have a beach, but there are some public pools where you can wipe out the summer heat and splash around in the pool. Every year, the public pools are open from May 31 (with one day off) to September 7

Officially called "Casa de Campo Municipal Sports Center", the Lago pool is one of the most popular places in the city. The pool is large and cool with plenty of room to spread out with your towels and have a fun day in the sun. The property has a small diner type shop where you can get fresh food and drinks and take a break from the sun on their terrace. You can get there by taking metro line 6 to Puerta del Ángel or line 10 to Lago.
2. Centro deportivo municipal Vicente del Bosque
Address: Av. de Monforte de Lemos, 13, 28029 Madrid
In addition to its 25-meter pool, the facilities also include a soccer field, a 3-lane track, 2 paddle tennis courts, 4 tennis courts, 2 multipurpose courts, table tennis, a gym, and a tennis court. Som if you feel like breaking a sweat before you get in the pool, this is the place for you. To get there, you can take metro lines 5 to Quintana and 7 to Pueblo Nuevo or Barrio de la Concepción.
3. Centro deportivo municipal Francos Rodríguez

Located north of downtown in Bella Vistas, this sports center is perfect for a simple dip in the pool, especially if you live in the area. The facility has a 50-meter pool, along with beach volleyball and table tennis! You can get there by taking metro line 7 to Francisco Rodríguez.
4. Parque deportivo Puerta de Hierro
Address: Ctra. de La Coruña, Km 7, 28040 Madrid
Puerta del Hierro is one of the largest recreational centers in Madrid! With more than 300,000 square meters of space, you can do all kinds of sports, such as archery, tennis or rugby... Most importantly, you can swim here. The pool is large and surrounded by green areas to sit and relax. Prices vary depending on the type of ticket and the activities you would like to do while you are there. The pool can be reached by bus lines 83 and 133.
5. Piscina de la Universidad Complutense
Address: Calle del Obispo Trejo, 8, 28040 Madrid
This huge pool is flooded with students and young people during the summer. The university pool is huge and has plenty of room to relax in the sun. The pool has all the basics: changing rooms, a cheap bar, and lockers. You must bring an ID with you, even if you only want to buy a 1-day ticket. The pool is usually open in June.
6. Centro deportivo Canal Isabel
Address: Av. de Filipinas, 54, 28003 Madrid
This Olympic swimming pool is located in the Chamberí district and is well-known in Madrid. The sports center also has tennis and paddle tennis courts, a gym and a bar/restaurant. The outdoor pool is only open in the summer, but it has a sun terrace that can be used all year round! You can get there by taking lines 1 or 2 of the metro.

Madrid hosted the 1986 World Aquatic Championships and built a new swimming center for the occasion. It is home to two Olympic-size swimming pools, as well as a diving pool, gym, and sauna.
8. Centro Deportivo Municipal Escuelas de San Antón
Address: Calle de la Farmacia, 13, 28004 Madrid
This public pool is located in the central neighbourhood of Chueca, right next to Gran Vía. You can buy a season ticket or pay per visit. The 25-meter (82-foot) pool is divided into six lanes, making it ideal for serious swimmers.
9. Centro Deportivo Municipal Peñuelas

If you're near Embajadores in the Lavapiés neighbourhood of Madrid, this outdoor pool and the large grassy space around it is a popular spot during Madrid's hot summers. There are also plenty of picnic tables available, so grab a packed lunch and spend the day there.
10. Centro Deportivo Municipal Concepción
Address: Calle Hermanos de Pablo, 44, 28027 Madrid
This pool, located in a neighbourhood called La Concepción, has been recently remodelled. It was reopened to the public two years ago after many years of renovation. We are talking about a sports center where you can also find a soccer field and take yoga or pilates classes.
Now that the summer heat has hit Madrid, all you want to do is splash around in cold water. Madrid may not be blessed with the sea nearby, but luckily there are some outdoor pools to dip into. There are numerous public swimming pools, with grassy lounging areas that are open for the summer season.
